Call upon God for His Blessings
Note from today’s Bible reading: Numbers 4-6
On one occasion, the Lord gave Moses instructions to give to Aaron regarding what he was to say to the people of Israel. However, this was not a command to be given to the people; instead, it was a blessing.
Aaron was told to say to the people, “The Lord bless you, and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).
God could certainly bless the people of Israel without Aaron calling upon God to bless them in this way. Yet God explained that when Aaron would “invoke [His] name on the sons of Israel…then [He would] bless them” (Numbers 6:27).
There are two reminders for us in this. First, we must remember that God is the source of all blessings. Second, we are to be concerned for others and desire that God bless them.
So call upon God for His blessings. It is not as if He would forget to bless us (or others) if we did not remind Him to do so. Instead, as we often tend to focus on ourselves, this provides us the opportunity to remember God and others.
