Death Is a Reality of Life
Note from today’s Bible reading: Hebrews 9-10
In a world filled with uncertainty, one thing certain for each person is death. The Hebrew writer noted this: “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
Even though we know that this is the case, we rarely want to think about it. Rather than contemplate our own mortality, we choose instead to focus on all of the things we have to do in this life. We may also dream about all of the things we want to do here. Yet the day will come when there will be no more doing or planning.
It is not wrong to be mindful of our responsibilities or to think about possibilities for the future. However, we need to recognize the certainty of death because of what comes next – “judgment.”
Paul told the brethren in Corinth that “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ” in order to be judged for “what [we have] done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). When we go about our daily activities and also prepare for the future, we need to do so with this in mind. We will be held accountable for what we do in life, and the time will come when it will be too late to make whatever changes and improvements we ought to be making now.
So remember that death is a reality of life. No one will live forever here. Therefore, let us use our time to prepare to meet the Lord so we can be judged worthy of receiving eternal life with Him.
