Do Not Put Your Trust in Those Who Cannot Save
Note from today’s Bible reading: Psalm 134; 146-150
The psalmist declared, “I will praise the Lord while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being” (Psalm 146:2). This commitment to worship and honor the Lord is commendable. One who recognizes that God is worthy of praise will also see that He is deserving of our trust.
However, the psalmist also warned against putting our trust in those who do not deserve it. In the next verse, he said, “Do not trust in princes, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish” (Psalm 146:3-4).
There is a temptation to put our trust in others, especially those who have a degree of authority or occupy some position where people look to them for provisions and protection. Yet even the highest-ranking official is just a “mortal man” who is subject to death – the same as all of us. No matter what benefit we think we may receive from them, they cannot offer salvation. Only God is worthy of our trust because He is eternal, all-powerful, and willing to save us.
So do not put your trust in those who cannot save. Instead, let us put our trust in the Lord. He is willing and able to save us if we will follow Him above all others.
