Fear No Evil
Note from today’s Bible reading: Psalm 1-2; 15; 22-24; 47; 68
One of the best-known and well-loved passages in the Bible is Psalm 23. In it, David described the Lord as his shepherd and the blessings, comfort, and protection He provides.
One of the benefits David saw of having the Lord as his shepherd was that he would “fear no evil” (Psalm 23:4). However, it is important to note that this lack of fear was not the result of him being naive about the dangers that existed around him. He recognized that he walked “through the valley of the shadow of death,” yet he told the Lord that he had no fear because “You are with me” (Psalm 23:4).
Like David, we will face physical, emotional, and spiritual threats to our safety. Yet we can display courage, not by ignoring the dangers around us, but by recognizing that God is with us. No matter what evil might befall us in this life, we still have the hope that we will “dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6).
So fear no evil. As Jesus said, “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul” (Matthew 10:28). God will be with us through whatever we face and, if we hold onto our faith in Him, will reward us with eternal life.
