Find Help Bearing Your Burdens
Note from today’s Bible reading: Numbers 9-13
Moses’ task of leading the children of Israel through the wilderness to the promised land would have been demanding, even under the best of circumstances. Yet the constant complaining of the people became so stressful that Moses brought the problem before the Lord.
Moses asked God why “the burden of all this people” had been laid upon him (Numbers 11:11). He said, “I alone am not able to carry all this people, because it is too burdensome for me” (Numbers 11:14). Yet he felt as if he had no one to help, so he asked the Lord to take his life rather than have him continue (Numbers 11:15).
God’s solution was not to take Moses out of his role; instead, it was to provide him with the help he needed. He told Moses to gather seventy men to stand with him and bear the burden of the people with him so that he would not have to bear it alone (Numbers 11:16-17).
This is important to remember when we feel overwhelmed and ready to give up. The solution is not to quit; it is to find others who can provide us with the support we need.
So find help bearing your burdens. God never intended for His people to stand alone, especially when we face difficulties that are hard to endure. Let us look for support when we need it – and provide support for others as well – as we strive to carry out our work for the Lord.
