Glorify God in Your Body
Note from today’s Bible reading: 1 Corinthians 5-6
In addressing the problem of sexual immorality, Paul told the brethren in Corinth, “Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord” (1 Corinthians 6:13). In deciding how we use our bodies, we need to be mindful of what the Lord desires of us.
Paul continued a few verses later: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
When Paul said that we have been “bought with a price,” he was referring to the fact that we have been redeemed by the blood of Christ (cf. 1 Peter 1:18-19). We belong to Him and no one else has a right to claim authority over us ahead of God.
This means two things. First, we must make sure we are using our bodies to do His will. Second, we are not to give into any temptation or coercion by others to do anything that would hinder our ability to use our bodies to do God’s will.
So glorify God in your body. Rather than engaging in behavior that is contrary to His will, we need to focus on doing what He would have us to do. We belong to the Lord, so let us use our bodies for His purpose.
