God Does Not Hide What He Plans to Do
Note from today’s Bible reading: Genesis 18-21
Before the destruction of Sodom, the Lord appeared to Abraham (Genesis 18:1) and told him, “The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. I will go down now, and see if they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me; and if not, I will know” (Genesis 18:20-21).
This visit to Sodom by the angels confirmed that God was acting justly when He “sent [them] to destroy it” (Genesis 19:13). However, it is significant that God revealed this to Abraham ahead of time. “The Lord said, ‘Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?’” (Genesis 18:17).
When God brings judgment for sin, He does not hide that it is coming. Before the flood, God warned Noah (Genesis 6:11-14). Before the destruction of Sodom, God told Abraham and Lot (Genesis 18:20-33; 19:12-17).
He has done the same for us today. One day, “the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8). Paul told the Athenians, “Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness…” (Acts 17:30-31).
So remember that God does not hide what He plans to do. One day, the Lord will judge the world, punish the wicked, and save the righteous. Let us be ready for that day!
