God Remembers His Covenant
Note from today’s Bible reading: Exodus 1-5
When Jacob and his family came to Egypt, they did so to escape a famine and were cared for by Joseph, who had risen to power. However, as the descendants of Jacob grew more numerous, there arose “a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph” (Exodus 1:8).
This new king did not view the people of Israel favorably. Instead, he saw them as a threat. His solution was to increase their labor and make their bondage insufferable.
As a result, the people “sighed because of their bondage, and they cried out; and their cry for help because of their bondage rose up to God. So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” (Exodus 2:23-24). The people were suffering severely in Egypt, yet God would deliver them. Though their lives were difficult, and they had no way on their own to remedy the situation, God took notice and would save them according to the promise He made to their forefathers.
This is an important lesson for us. As we face difficulties in life, it might be tempting at times to think that God has forgotten us or is unconcerned. Yet He has promised to save the faithful; we simply need to patiently wait for His salvation.
So God remembers His covenant. We do not need to worry about God failing to do what He has promised. Instead, as we experience trials in life, let us look to Him in faith that He will deliver us at the proper time.
