God Will Not Forget You

Note from today’s Bible reading: Isaiah 49-53

God’s people would be taken into Babylonian captivity because of their sin. For this reason, many of them believed that the Lord had completely given up on them.

However, the Lord assured them that this was not the case. “But Zion said, ‘The Lord has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me’” (Isaiah 49:14). It is easy to imagine why they would feel this way in captivity.

Yet the prophet answered for God: “Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you. Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me” (Isaiah 49:15-16).

Mothers are universally recognized for their compassion and desire to nurture their child (even though there are exceptions to this). God said that He would never forget His people. Despite their difficult circumstances, there was hope for the future. A few verses later, God said, “And all flesh will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob” (Isaiah 49:26). In other words, God was not just declaring that He remembered His people, He was going to demonstrate this so clearly that everyone would recognize it. This should serve as an encouragement for us even today.

So remember that God will not forget you. No matter how difficult life gets, God will be with us. Even if others may forsake us, God will save those He has redeemed.
