God's Word Is Life
Note from today’s Bible reading: Deuteronomy 32-34; Psalm 91
In Moses’ final address to the people of Israel, he encouraged them to carefully follow the law he had delivered to them from God: “Take to your heart all the words with which I am warning you today, which you shall command your sons to observe carefully, even all the words of this law” (Deuteronomy 32:46).
Why was this so important? Why did they need to continue to faithfully and wholeheartedly follow God’s law rather than their own ideas or the ways of the nations around them?
Moses explained: “For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life. And by this word you will prolong your days in the land, which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess” (Deuteronomy 32:47). The law of God was “not an idle word,” but was their “life.” Their future blessings, prosperity, and protection depended on them accepting and applying God’s law in every aspect of their lives.
This is the case for us today as well. Peter acknowledged that Jesus had “words of eternal life” (John 6:68). Our hope for the future depends on us believing His word and obeying it.
So remember that God’s word is life. No other message can provide the hope that the gospel offers to us. Let us recognize the power in it and use it to guide us throughout our days.
