Impress God's Word on Your Heart
Note from today’s Bible reading: Deuteronomy 11-15
Moses encouraged the people of Israel of the need to obey the Lord. He said, “You shall therefore love the Lord your God, and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments” (Deuteronomy 11:1). This was to be their response to God delivering them from bondage in Egypt (Deuteronomy 11:2-4).
He said again, “You shall therefore keep every commandment which I am commanding you today, so that you may be strong and go in and possess the land into which you are about to cross to possess it” (Deuteronomy 11:8). God was leading them to the promised land. He would also continue to bless them if they would “love the Lord” and “serve Him with all [their] heart and all [their] soul” (Deuteronomy 11:13).
How could they keep God’s commandments in this way? How can we do the same today? Notice what Moses said, “You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul…” (Deuteronomy 11:18). God’s word needed to be in their innermost being so that they would not forget it. The same is true for us today.
So impress God’s word on your heart. We may have good intentions of obeying the Lord, but we will never serve Him faithfully if we do not remember His word. We need to be serious about studying and learning the Scriptures so that we can follow the Lord’s will.
