The psalmist described God’s word as “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:160). Yet the only way for God’s word to properly guide us is for us to spend time with it. Regular periods of Bible reading and reflection are vital.
When I began writing Daily Bible Notes in 2020, I created a daily Bible reading plan that covered the entire Bible in 15 months. The schedule was divided into five quarters, with each quarter focusing on a different part of the Scriptures:
The books of the Law (Genesis through Deuteronomy)
History (Joshua through Esther)
Wisdom literature (Job through Song of Solomon)
Prophecy (Isaiah through Malachi)
The New Testament
As I read each day, I would write a brief article on something found in the scheduled reading. Since then, I have followed other reading plans, including one that goes through the Bible chronologically in a year, and have sent out an article each weekday via email.
Now I am starting to share these articles on Substack. This means that articles will still be delivered each weekday, but they will also be available online, allowing you to comment on the articles, share them more easily, and read previous articles. You can sign up for a free subscription to have these articles delivered to your inbox each weekday. The first quarter here will go through the Gospels.
I hope that Daily Bible Notes encourages you to develop or maintain your own regular Bible reading habit. Of course, I hope the articles themselves are helpful to you; but there is much more to be gained from your personal practice of reading, meditating upon, and applying the Scriptures.
