It Is Foolish to Deny the Lord
Note from today’s Bible reading: Psalm 6; 8-10; 14; 16; 19; 21
The psalmist wrote, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). The reason why it is foolish to deny the existence of God is because of the proof there is for Him. The world in which we live – with its complexity, harmony, and how it sustains life from generation to generation – could not have come about from nothingness or an accident. There was a designer who created all things, and that was God.
Why do people claim that there is no God despite this evidence? The psalmist continued, “They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; there is no one who does good” (Psalm 14:1). These two statements are not unrelated. They are necessarily connected.
Why would someone deny the existence of God despite the overwhelming evidence? It is because they do not want to submit to God. They do not want to accept that there is one who will judge them for their actions. They want to continue to live in whatever way they choose. In order to live as they please without guilt, they must convince themselves that “there is no God,” despite the proof that is out there for His existence.
So remember that it is foolish to deny the Lord. He has shown through the world He has made that He exists. Let us not close our eyes to this evidence in an attempt to soothe our conscience while we continue in sin.
