After telling His disciples that He was going to prepare a place for them in His Father’s house (John 14:2-3), Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). There are some fundamental truths about Jesus contained in this statement.
First, Jesus is “the way.” He shows us the direction we are to go. If we want to know what path to take, we must look to Him.
Second, Jesus is “the truth.” He has revealed what is right. His word provides the perfect standard for us to follow in this life.
Third, Jesus is “the life.” Not only is He the giver of life (cf. John 1:3-4), but He is the one who is able to provide eternal life (John 6:68).
If we want to reach the Father and the eternal home in heaven with Him, we must go through Christ. Jesus said that “no one comes to the Father but through [Him].” We cannot invent our own way or follow someone else’s path. We must follow Him.
So remember that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He has shown us how to reach eternal life. Yet we need to recognize that it is through Him and only Him that anyone has hope of obtaining this.
