Keep Your Commitment to the Lord
Note from today’s Bible reading: Deuteronomy 21-23
In the law given by Moses, the people of Israel were warned about the seriousness of the vows they might make to the Lord. If they promised to make some offering or bring some gift – besides the minimum that was required by the law – they were to make sure they fulfilled it.
Moses told them, “When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the Lord your God will surely require it of you. However, if you refrain from vowing, it would not be sin in you. You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God, what you have promised” (Deuteronomy 23:21-23).
This reminds us of the importance of keeping our word, even when it comes to what we say we will do for the Lord. We are to think seriously about what we are promising to do and not get ourselves in a situation where we cannot do what we said we would.
So keep your commitment to the Lord. It is a privilege to be able to serve Him. Let us not allow other plans and obligations in this life to prevent us from serving the Lord as we have committed to do.
