Jesus repeatedly admonished His followers to be ready. As He would return one day in judgment, He wanted them to be prepared and not caught off guard.
He said, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. Whether he comes in the second watch, or even the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves” (Luke 12:35-38).
In order for a slave to be ready as Jesus described, he had to respect the authority of His master and make watching for him a priority. If the slave did not respect his master, or if he thought he had “better” things to do, he would not be prepared.
The same is true for us today. As we await the Lord’s return, we must be ready. Yet if we do not respect the Lord and His authority, or we make other things a priority over what He has instructed us, we will not be ready for Him.
So let the Lord find you on the alert. Even though He is the master, He will abundantly bless His servants who faithfully watch for Him. Let us make sure we are putting Him first and doing His will while we await His return.
