Let the Lord Find You Worthy to Walk with Him
Note from today’s Bible reading: Revelation 2-3
When the Lord addressed the church in Sardis in the book of Revelation, He told them, “I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead” (Revelation 3:1). He went on to tell them to “wake up” and “repent” (Revelation 3:2-3).
Interestingly, not every Christian in Sardis was in need of such repentance because they were faithfully following the Lord. Jesus said of these brethren, “But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy” (Revelation 3:4).
This teaches us a couple of lessons. First, the Lord is going to judge us as individuals. Jesus could see who was truly living for Him and who merely had a reputation for such, and He would either reward or punish them accordingly.
Second, we need to remember that being faithful to the Lord will sometimes mean not going along with our brethren. When our fellow-Christians begin to depart from the way of truth, we must not go with them.
So let the Lord find you worthy to walk with Him. If our brethren begin to fall away, let us not follow them into apostasy. Instead, let us continually live in such a way that would be pleasing to Christ.
