Make Sure God’s Workers Are Able to Do Their Work
Note from today’s Bible reading: Exodus 36-38
Bezalel and Oholiab were two individuals who had “skill and understanding to know how to perform all the work in the construction of the sanctuary” (Exodus 36:1). So they, along with “every skillful person” (Exodus 36:2), were put in charge of constructing the tabernacle.
Though these individuals were given this task, there was a role for the rest of the people. They brought “contributions” and “freewill offerings” that were needed for the work (Exodus 36:3). In fact, they had to be told to stop bringing materials because what they had contributed was “more than enough” (Exodus 36:3-7).
We can draw a parallel from this to those who are engaged in the Lord’s work today. By God’s design, those who preach should “get their living from the gospel” (1 Corinthians 9:14). This allows them to devote themselves “completely to the word” instead of also having to work to support themselves (Acts 18:2-5). As brethren support men who are preaching, they become “fellow workers with the truth” (3 John 8) and help enable them to do more in the cause of Christ.
So make sure God’s workers are able to do their work. When those who are engaged in the work can focus on that without needing to support the work themselves, much more can be done. As all of us work together, contributing and doing what we can, we will be in the best possible position to carry out the work God has given us to do.
