Our Ways Will Be Tested
Note from today’s Bible reading: Job 22-27
As Job endured the trials that had come upon him, he desired to appeal his cause to the Lord (Job 23:3-4). He believed he would be found to be upright (Job 23:7), yet he expressed confusion as to why he was suffering (Job 23:8-9).
Job then said, “But [God] knows the way I take; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside” (Job 23:10-11). Though his circumstances were not pleasant, he held onto the hope that he would come through this period of testing better than he was before.
This is important for us to remember as we face difficulties in this life. James said we should “consider it all joy…when [we] encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of [our] faith produces endurance…so that [we] may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (James 1:2-4). Peter wrote that “the proof of [our] faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:7). If we persevere through trials, we will come out on the other side with a stronger faith.
So remember that our ways will be tested. How we face hardships is a reflection of our faith. Even if we do not understand why we are suffering as we are, let us continue to trust in God that all will be well in the end.
