Our Words Are Powerful
Note from today’s Bible reading: Proverbs 14-18
The wise man said, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21).
We tend to underestimate the impact our speech can have – either for good or bad. Yet the wise man indicated that our words are able to give life. We can encourage others and impart spiritual guidance that can help lead them to the Lord.
On the other hand, we can also ruin someone’s life by speaking words of discouragement, gossip, and slander. We can even lead them toward eternal destruction by providing spiritual counsel that is contrary to God’s will.
Knowing this, we need to be intentional about what we say. If we are careless with our words, we can do more harm than good. But if we are careful with our speech, we may be shocked at the good we can accomplish.
So remember that our words are powerful. We need to use our speech to build others up instead of tearing them down. Not only that, but we need to be careful to speak the truth of God’s word to others so we do not lead them astray.
