Prove to Be Doers of the Word
Note from today’s Bible reading: James 1
The fact that God has given us His word is a great blessing. In it we can learn about Him, find out what He has done and will do for us, and discover what His will is.
However, many people are content to simply learn about God’s word, but never put it into practice in their lives. Yet His word is intended to change our behavior. Notice what James wrote: “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves” (James 1:22).
God has called us to not just hear and believe His word, but to obey it. Unfortunately, many have deceived themselves into thinking that their faith in God and their belief that the Bible is the word of God is sufficient. Yet James went on to explain that one who is “an effectual doer” of God’s word “will be blessed in what he does” (James 1:25). This is what we must strive to do.
So prove to be doers of the word. This starts with learning what the word of God teaches through listening, reading, and studying. However, we are to not just learn about His will; we are to carry out His will in our lives.
