Sin Makes Us Foolish
Note from today’s Bible reading: Psalm 133; 106-107
Throughout Psalm 107, the psalmist described the state of man and how he needed God to guide and deliver him. God was to be praised because He was willing and able to help.
However, despite God’s offer of salvation, many wander further away from Him. We know this is foolish, yet we see it all the time and sometimes even find ourselves doing the same thing.
Why would anyone be so foolish as to reject God’s offer of deliverance? It is because of sin. The psalmist explained, “Fools, because of their rebellious way, and because of their iniquities, were afflicted” (Psalm 107:17). The desire to pursue the “passing pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25) can cause one to act irrationally and do what he knows to be wrong.
This is a warning for us. Even though we may know the difference between right and wrong, we may still give in to temptation and find ourselves engaged in sin. This rebellious attitude and the desire to continue our sinful practices turn us into fools, and we suffer the consequences for it.
So remember that sin makes us foolish. Rather than continuing to give it a place in our lives, we must repudiate it. Let us exercise wisdom and do what we know we should do.
