The Lord Is Our Strength and Song
Note from today’s Bible reading: Exodus 15-18
After the people of Israel left Egypt, Pharaoh had a change of heart. Even though he finally let them go after the last plague in which all the firstborn in Egypt died, he decided to send his army after them to bring them back (Exodus 14:5-9).
When the people of Israel saw Pharaoh’s army approaching, they were “very frightened” and “cried out to the Lord” (Exodus 14:10). Yet Moses encouraged them, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent” (Exodus 14:13-14).
This resulted in the well-known parting of the Red Sea, in which the people of Israel crossed on dry ground, and the Egyptians were drowned in the sea when they tried to pursue (Exodus 14:21-29). Moses then led the Israelites to praise the Lord: “The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him” (Exodus 15:2).
Similarly, we need to praise the Lord today. He has led us out of the bondage of sin and has set us free. Jesus said, “Everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin,” but “if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:34, 36).
So remember that the Lord is our strength and song. Without Him, we would be hopelessly lost. But through Him, we can be delivered from our sins and obtain freedom in Christ.
