The Lord Is with Us, Do Not Fear
Note from today’s Bible reading: Numbers 14-15; Psalm 90
After the twelve spies returned from the land of Canaan, ten of them gave a negative report and convinced the people that they would not be able to take the land (Numbers 13:25-33). The people were so upset that they wanted to appoint someone to lead them back to Egypt (Numbers 14:4).
Moses, Aaron, and the two spies who gave a good report (Joshua and Caleb) pleaded with the people not to rebel or consider the conquest hopeless. They said, “Do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them” (Numbers 14:9).
Sadly, the people of Israel would not be convinced. Instead, they wanted to stone the servants of God for encouraging them to trust in the Lord (Numbers 14:10).
As we read this, it is obvious to us how wrong they were. They should have known that God was well-capable of delivering them to take possession of the promised land. Yet when their faith was tested, they retreated in fear. Sadly, we often do this today when faced with temptation, opposition, and persecution for our faith. Too many times, we forget how we were shocked by what they had forgotten.
So remember that the Lord is with us, do not fear. We will face trials that will put our faith to the test. Yet no matter what happens, God will deliver us if we continue to trust in Him.
