There Is No God Like the Lord
Note from today’s Bible reading: 2 Chronicles 6-7; Psalm 136
When Solomon offered a prayer of dedication for the newly constructed temple, he said, “O Lord, the God of Israel, there is no god like You in heaven or on earth, keeping covenant and showing lovingkindness to Your servants who walk before You with all their heart” (2 Chronicles 6:14).
The nations around Israel had their idols that they worshiped as “gods.” Even today, people have “gods” that they serve – not necessarily graven images, but things like money, careers, and even family that have taken the place of God in their lives.
However, Solomon recognized that the God of heaven was different. Besides the fact that He was (and is) the only true and living God, He also keeps His promises and continues to show kindness to His people. No other “god” will do this. Therefore, only the Lord is worthy of the praise and honor that His people offer to Him.
So remember that there is no God like the Lord. He cares for and blesses us more than any person or thing we might value. If we serve Him wholeheartedly, we can be confident that He will keep His promises and reward us with eternal life.
