There Is No One Like God
Note from today’s Bible reading: Isaiah 43-48
Even though they should have known better, God’s people continually followed the influence of the nations around them and worshiped other “gods.” Yet these idols were inferior substitutes to the true and living God.
God asked His people, “To whom would you liken Me and make Me equal and compare Me, that we would be alike?” (Isaiah 46:5). Though they might take gold, make it into an idol, worship it, and cry out to it, this “god” could never deliver them as God could (Isaiah 46:6-7).
The Lord admonished them, “Remember this, and be assured; recall it to mind, you transgressors. Remember the former things long past, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning…” (Isaiah 46:8-10).
No idol could do what God could do. He is all-knowing and all-powerful, able to reveal what He will do and execute His plan. No other “god” could do this – whether the idols of gold the Israelites served or the idols that we may serve today (money, careers, entertainment, pleasure, etc.).
So remember that there is no one like God. Only He can deliver us. Therefore, let us put our complete trust in Him rather than in the things of this life that so often compete for the devotion that should be directed to Him alone.
