Those Who Are Angry with God Will Be Angry with God's Spokesmen
Note from today’s Bible reading: Numbers 16-19
Korah, Dathan, and Abiram rebelled against Moses and challenged the authority he had received from God (Numbers 16:1-3). God showed His displeasure toward these men by causing the ground to split open and swallow them up (Numbers 16:31-33).
Before this, Moses made it clear that if something like this were to happen, it would be God’s doing (Numbers 16:30). Furthermore, it would prove that God had sent Moses to do the work that these men questioned him about.
Despite it being clear that God was behind this, the next day, the people “grumbled against Moses and Aaron” because they “caused the death of the Lord’s people” (Numbers 16:41). Of course, this was a false charge. Moses and Aaron did not cause this; God did. However, since they were not pleased with God, they were upset with the ones doing His work.
The same thing happens today. People reject the gospel and are upset over what the Scriptures teach. Yet instead of complaining against God, they condemn those who are faithfully teaching His word. We can see from this account that some things never change. As we teach others what the Bible teaches, we must be prepared for this.
So remember that those who are angry with God will be angry with God’s spokesmen. If people are upset at us for teaching the word of God, let us not compromise the truth to appease them. Their complaint is not with us, but with God; and we will all give an account one day to Him – how we have accepted His word and how we have taught it to others.
