Trust and Obey
Note from today’s Bible reading: Leviticus 26-27
As the children of Israel looked forward to the promised land, God told them that if they trusted in Him and obeyed His law, He would bless them. He said, “I shall give you rains in their season, so that the land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will bear their fruit” (Leviticus 26:4).
Interestingly, this came immediately after God reminded them to “keep My sabbaths” (Leviticus 26:2). This was a day of rest they were to observe each week. If they kept this command – along with the rest of the law God gave them – God would bless them.
The sabbath law would be easy to break if they did not fully trust God to fulfill His promise. If there was a chance that the rains and harvests might not produce what they expected, they could easily be tempted to break the sabbath law and work more just in case things did not turn out as God said.
But God told them, “Indeed, your threshing will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will last until sowing time. You will thus eat your food to the full and live securely in your land” (Leviticus 26:5). In other words, they would have more than enough without any “gap” in the blessings that God promised. Though we live under a different law today, this same lesson is needed for us.
So trust and obey. Do not adjust your behavior just in case what God promised is not really true. Instead, recognize His willingness and ability to fulfill every promise He has made and faithfully submit to His will in all things.
