Watch the Path of Your Feet
Note from today’s Bible reading: Proverbs 4-8
As the wise man advised his son, he said, “Let your eyes look directly ahead and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. Watch the path of your feet and all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right nor to the left; turn your foot from evil” (Proverbs 4:25-27).
In these verses, the wise man spoke of the importance of walking in the right direction. Of course, this was not just about moving from one point to another. The Bible frequently uses the imagery of walking to describe our manner of life.
In other words, the wise man told his son that he needed to fix his attention on the preferred destination at the end of life. We recognize this as the presence of God in heaven. However, we will not reach that destination if we wander off to the right or left by following after false teachers or sinful desires.
To keep from getting off track, we must continually ensure that we are on the right path and that our next step brings us closer to our destination. But if we let ourselves get distracted and take our eyes off the goal, each step could take us further off course.
So watch the path of your feet. Keep moving toward the goal that God has given by following the path of truth outlined in his word. If you do get off course, find the path you need to be taking and quickly get back on track.
