Paul rebuked the Christians in Corinth for following after men (1 Corinthians 3:4). Of course, men like Paul and Apollos – the ones the apostle used in his example – played an important part in spreading the gospel. Even still, they were only “servants through whom [they] believed” (1 Corinthians 3:5).
Paul explained: “I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). While the work of the preacher or teacher was important, God was to receive the praise because He – through His word – was bringing people to salvation.
Yet Paul and Apollos were still active in helping to spread the gospel. In this way, they were “God’s fellow workers” (1 Corinthians 3:9), laboring with Him to help lead people to the truth.
The same is true today. As we teach and preach the word, we are planting the seed and watering it so that it can grow in the hearts of others. We are not doing this to gain a following for ourselves; instead, we are simply carrying out the Lord’s work and trusting in Him to cause the growth.
So remember that we are God’s fellow workers. We are doing His work in order to bring honor to Him. Let us continue to plant and water the seed to help others learn the truth and grow in their faith.
Amen brother May the living Lord bless you abundantly 🙏 🙏
