We Are One in Christ Jesus
Note from today’s Bible reading: Galatians 3-4
Paul described the process by which one becomes a child of God: “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” (Galatians 3:26-27).
By believing and obeying the Lord – having faith in Him and putting on Christ in baptism – we can be God’s children. This process is described elsewhere as being “born again” (cf. John 3:3; 1 Peter 1:3, 23).
After describing how we obey the gospel and get “into Christ,” Paul then explained that those who are in Christ are “all one in [Him]” (Galatians 3:28). Regardless of our ethnic background (Jew or Greek), economic status (slave or free), or gender (male or female), we are to be united in Christ.
The world is divided along these lines (as well as many others). Satan’s desire is to divide the Lord’s people in the same way so that they become discouraged, ineffective, and fighting with one another. Yet we must strive for unity because we are all part of the body of Christ.
So remember that we are one in Christ Jesus. No matter what our background or earthly status might be, the Lord is willing to accept us and count us as equal with the rest of His people. Let us appreciate the privilege it is to be part of the body of Christ and be willing to join into fellowship with anyone who faithfully obeys the Lord.
