We Cannot Escape Problems in This Life
Note from today’s Bible reading: Leviticus 11-14
God sent Moses to lead the people from the land of Egypt – out of bondage to the promised land of Canaan. However, even in the promised land, they would have their share of hardships.
Amid a set of instructions about how to detect and treat leprosy, God said, “When you enter the land of Canaan, which I give you for a possession, and I put a mark of leprosy on a house in the land of your possession, then the one who owns the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, ‘Something like a mark of leprosy has become visible to me in the house’” (Leviticus 14:34-35).
On the one hand, God was promising them that they would certainly “enter the land of Canaan.” On the other hand, they were still going to have to deal with this terrible affliction – not just in their houses, but in their bodies as well (as this chapter and the previous one discussed in great detail).
This reminds us that even when God’s people enjoy the best of circumstances in this life, we still live in a world with disease, decay, and various troubles. Yes, God abundantly blesses us; but we are still to look forward to an even greater reward in heaven.
So remember that we cannot escape problems in this life. No matter what we experience here, good or bad, we have something far better to look forward to. Let us never lose sight of the ultimate reward beyond this life.
