We Lack Nothing When God Is with Us
Note from today’s Bible reading: Deuteronomy 1-2
The book of Deuteronomy begins with Moses recounting their travels during forty years in the wilderness. One of the points he emphasized was how God provided for them throughout this time.
Moses told the people, “For the Lord your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing” (Deuteronomy 2:7).
Even though they were wandering in the wilderness without many of the comforts that are expected when one is settled in a particular place, Moses could say that they had “not lacked a thing.” How could he say that? It was because “God [had] been with [them].”
This is an important point for us to remember. It is one thing to recognize that the things we have in this life are blessings from God. At the same time, we could look to others who have more than we do and wish we had more ourselves. Yet if we recognize that God is with us, we can be content with whatever else we have.
So remember that we lack nothing when God is with us. The world teaches us that we should be unsatisfied until we get more. While there is nothing wrong with trying to improve our lot in life, we must recognize that as long as we have the Lord, we have all we need.
